               Circuit Court for Caroline County this 5th
(seal)      day of February Anno Domini 1856

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  whereas William Baley
hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom according
to law and whereas on the oath of William Loocerkman has
proven that said negro man was free born I do therefore grant this
certificate.  He is now about 23 years of age five feet & five inches
high or thereabouts of a dark Chesnutt Complexion & has a
Small scar on his nose and has no other scar that I have observed
                      In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
(Seal)             my name & affix the seal of the circuit court
                      for Caroline County this 12th day of Feb.y A D
  cost 1$ paid 1856

State of Maryland Caroline county to wit:
             Whereas Elizabeth Russum hath made application
to me for a certificate of her freedom
And whereas also on the oath of James A
Warren that said negro woman was free born
I do therefore grant this Certificate.  She is now
about 32 years of age five feet one inch high or
thereabouts of a light chesnutt Complexion was
born & raised in Caroline County and has no
scars that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
(seal)     my name and affix the seal of the Circuit
             Court for Caroline County this 9.th day of
             May 1856
