302 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas on the 19 Aug 1832 Daniel Cheezum manumitted & set free a negro called Harris Jackson to be free on 1.st January 1852 And Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man calling himself Horrace Jackson for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to law and whereas on the oath of James Bartlett Junior that he is the same negro mentioned in said manumission. I do grant this certificate. He is now about 32 years of age five feet ten & one half inches high or thereabouts of a black complexion & has a scar on the left side of the chin & no other notable mark or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name & affix the (seal) seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 13th day of November A D 1855 Thomas F Garey Clk State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas on the William Murray hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to law And whereas on the oath of Richard O Hicks has been proven that said negro man was free born. I do therefore grant this certificate: He is now about 33 years of age 5 feet 9 inches high or thereabouts of a dark Complexion was born & raised in Caroline County & has a large scar on his right cheek & disfigured nail on the little finger of the righ left hand & has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name & affix the (Seal) seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 20th day of November AD 1855 Thomas F Garey Clk |
