Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Asberry Baynard hath made
application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to
Law      And Whereas on the oath of James M. Whitly
has been proven that the said Asbury Baynard was
free born      I do therefore grant this Certificate   He is
now about 28 years of age 5 feet 4 inches high or
thereabouts of a Chesnutt Complexion was born and
raised in Caroline County and has a small scar
on the joints of his left thumb and on the back
of his right hand and has no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed
            In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe
            my name and affix the seal of the Circuit
(Seal)  Court for Caroline County this 29.th day
            of Aug A D 1854

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit   Whereas
on this 22.d Decr 1845 Sarah Ann Roe manumitted and
set free a negro woman Called Julia to be free on 25.th
Sept 1853   And whereas application hath been made
to me by a negro woman Calling herself Julia
Busick for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to law   And whereas on the oath of James H
Roe that she is the same one mentioned in said
Manumission   I do grant her this Certificate
She is about 35 years of age five feet two inches high or thereabouts
of a Mulatto Complexion with a small scar on her
left arm & a mole on the right side of her neck
            In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
(seal)   name and affix the seal of the Circuit Court
           for Caroline County this 16.th Oct 1854

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit      Whereas a
certain Henry Nicols the 3d on  the 5.th day of September 1798
did manumit & set free among others a certain negro woman
called Mintah and her issue to be considered as
free born   And whereas a certain negro woman calling
herself Charlotte Deverix has made application for a certificate
of her freedom   And whereas on the oath of Nathan
Hunter has been proven that said Charlotte Deverix
is the daughter of Minta and that she is free born
       I do therefore Grant her application & hereby Certify
