Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Henrietta Rich hath made
application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to Law.
    And whereas on the oath of Charles A Griffith has been proven
that that the said Henrietta Rich was free born   I do therefore
grant this certificate      She is now about 37 years of age
four feet three and a quarter inches high or thereabouts of a black
complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and
has a small scar on her nose just between her eyes and has
no other notable marks or scars that I have observed
                   In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name
    (Seal)      and affix the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline
                   this 23.d day of May A. D. 1854

Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Mary E. Satterfield hath
made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to law      And whereas on the oath of Matthew Wootters has
been proven that the said Matthew Wootters Mary E Satterfield
was free born          I do therefore grant this Certificate
She is now about 22 years of age 5 feet 3 inches high
or thereabouts of a chesnutt Complexion was born and
raised in Caroline County and has a scar on the right
side of her neck and one on the right arm just above
the Elbow and has no other notable marks or scars
that I have observed
                      In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe
                      my name and affix the seal of the
    (Seal)         Circuit Court for Caroline County this
                      5.th day of June A D 1854

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Nancy
Grim by Manumission dated the 7th Sep 1847 set free a
negro certain ^woman named^ Nancy Gri Tenn Mollison:   And whereas ^on^ application
of Tenn Mollison for a certificate agreeably to law; and
who has been proven to be the same mentioned in said
manumission agreeably to law upon the oath of Hugh B.
Simpers:      I do therefore grant this Certificate      She is
about 30 years of age 4 feet inches 11 inches high or thereabouts
of a Chesnutt ^black^ Complexion was born and raised in
Caroline County and has a scar on the right side of her neck
on her left arm caused by a burn & has no other notable marks
or scars that I have observed
                      In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my nam
(Seal)            and affix the seal of the Circuit Court for
                     Caroline County this 9.th day of June A D 1854
