Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

He is about 27 years of age 5 feet 7½ inches high or
thereabouts of a light mulatto Complexion was born
and raised in Caroline County and has a smal scar
in the right Corner of the right eye brow another just
above the left eyebrow and has no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed
                         In Testimony whereof I hereunto
                         subscribe my name and affix the
    (Seal)            seal of the Circuit Court for
                         Caroline County this 9th day of Dec
                         A D 1853

Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Thomas H Mason hath
made application to me for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to Law   And whereas on the oath of W.m J.
Pratt has been proven that said negro man was born
free.   I do therefore grant this Certificate:  He is now
about 21 years of age five feet 7¼ inches high
or thereabouts of black Complexion was born and
raised in Caroline County & has a small scar on the
left hand hear the first Joint of the Middle finger &
has no other notable marks or scars that I have
observed
                      In Testimony whereof I hereunto
                      subscribe my name and affix the
    (seal)          seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline
                      County this 24.th day of December
                      A. D. 1853

Caroline County to wit:   John Dyer hath made
application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to
law.   And whereas on on the affirmation of Samuel Dunning
has been proven that said negro man was born free
I do therefore grant this Certificate   He is now about
23 years of age 5 feet 9½ inches high or thereabouts of
a Mullatto Complexion was born and raised in Caroline
County and has a small scar on the 1.st joint of the Middle
finger and has no other ^notable^ marks or scars that I have observed
                         In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
    (seal)             name and affix the seal of the Circuit
                         Court for Caroline County this 22.d
                         day of December A. D. 1853
