Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit   Whereas
Sarah Brice negro woman hath made application to
me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to law
And whereas on the oath of SArah Deling has been
proven that said negro woman was born free.   I do
therefore grant her this Certificate   She is about
50 years of age 5 feet 5 inches high or thereabouts
of a dark Chesnutt Complexion was born & raised in
Caroline County and has no notable marks or scars
that I have observed
                   In Testimony whereof I hereunto
                   subscribe my name and affix the Seal
    (Seal)      of the Circuit Court for Caroline
                   County this 29.th day of September
                   Anno Domini 1853

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Henry
Collins negro man hath made application to me for a
certificate of his freedom agreeably to law.   And whereas
on the oath of Washington Rowens has been proven
that said negro man was free born.   I do therefore
grant her ^his^ said application this Certificate   He is now
about 21 years of age 5 feet 11 inches high or thereabouts
of a  Mullatto Complexion was born & raised in Caroline
County and has a small scar on the front part of
his forehead & has no other notable marks or scars that
I have observed
                            In Testimony whereof I hereunto
                            subscribe my name and affix the
    (Seal)               seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline
                            County this 6.th day of Octr 1853

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Margaret
Millard negro woman hath made application to me for a
certificate of her freedom agreeably to law.   And whereas on
the oath of John Draper has been proven that said negro
woman was born free.   I do therefore grant her this
certificate   She is about 36 years of age 5 feet 2 inches
high or thereabouts of a Chesnutt Complexion was born
and raised in Caroline County and has a small scar
in in the Corner of the left eyebrow and no other
notable marks or scars that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
(Seal)    name and affix the seal of the Circuit Court
             for Caroline County this 25.th day of November
             Anno Domini 1853
