270 now about twenty two years of age five feet six and and one half inches high or thereabouts of a black complexion was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid & has no notable marks or scars that I have observed. In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribed my name and affix the seal of (seal) Caroline County Court this 18th day of February A D 1851 Ja.s H Fountain Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro woman named Catharine A Johnson for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such case made and provided by which said acts free negroes and mullatoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of Certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of Lydia A Corkran of Talbot county that the said negro woman for whom this Certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her own account she is now about twenty three years of age five feet one inch high or thereabouts of a dark chesnutt complexion was born and raised in Caroline county & has a small scar over the left eye & also a scar on the left side of the Neck and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereunto (Seal) subscribe my name and affix the seal of Caroline County Court this 21.st day of March 1851 James H Fountain Clk of Caroline County Court |
