    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  whereas heretofore to wit
on the twenty third day of October Eighteen hundred and twenty eight a certain
James Sangston by Deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and
recorded among the Lands records of Caroline County did manumit and set free
a certain negro woman named Clarisa Baynard to be free from and after
the date of the said manumission and the said negro woman named Clarisa
Baynard having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom
agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and whereas
also upon the oath of Bennett Wherrett of Caroline County that the said
^negro woman named^ Clarisa Baynard for whom this certificate is made is the same person
mentioned in the said manumission I do therefore grant her said application
and hereby certify that from her age as expressed in the said manumission
she will be fourty four years of age the twenty third day of October
Instant five feet two inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in
Caroline County complexion dark Brown has a small scar crosswise
on the upper part of her right arm between the wrist and elbow joints
has another large scar crosswise and near the centre of her breast has
a small mole near the corner of her left eye and no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed   In Testimony whereof I hereto
(seal)   subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this
           19th day of October Anno Domini 1829

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas application hath been
made to me by a coloured man named Daniel Murray for a Certificate of
his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided
by which said act free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel
out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and
whereas also upon the oath of Evans Harper of Caroline County that the
said coloured man named Daniel Murray from for whom this Certificate
is made was free born I do therefore grant his said application and hereby
certify that from his own account he will be twenty three years of age
on the tenth day of January next five feet nine and a quarter inches
