Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit   Whereas application
    hath been made by to me by a mulattoe negro woman
named Sally Ann Jackson for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to the acts of assembly in such cases made and provided
by which said acts free negroes and mullattoes are permitted to travel
out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of being
free born;   And whereas also upon the oath of John C Talbot
William A. R. Griffith of Caroline County aforesaid that the
said negro ^woman^ girl named Sally Ann Jackson for whom this
certificate is made was free born.      I do therefore grant her said
application and hereby certify that from her own account
she is now about seventeen years of age Five feet & one
inch high or thereabouts of a light chesnutt complexion born
and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and has a
large scar on the right arm near the wrist caused by a
burn and has a small scar on the right eyebrow and ^has^ no
other notable marks or scars that I have observed
                      In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name
(Seal)             and affix the seal of Caroline County Court
                      this 22d day of July Anno Domini 1850

Green for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts
of Assembly in such case made and provided by which said
acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out
of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free
born      And whereas also upon the affirmation
of Samuel Dunning of Caroline County aforesaid that the
said negro woman named Louiza Green for whom
this certificate is made was free born      I do therefore
grant her said application and hereby certify that from her
own account she is now about twenty three years of
age; five feet & four inches high or thereabouts of a
Chesnutt Complexion was born and raised in Caroline
County aforesaid and has a large scar flesh mark on her
right arm above the elbow and has no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed
                                     In Testimony whereof I hereunto
                                     subscribe my name and affix
(Seal)                            the seal of Caroline County Court
                                     this 25th day of July A D 1850
