Maryland Caroline County to wit   Whereas application
hath been made to me by a negro woman
named Mary Ann Adams for a certificate of her
freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such
case made and provided by which said acts free
negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel
out of this state upon the obtention of certificate
of being free born.   And whereas also upon
the oath of John R Willis of Caroline County
aforesaid that the said negro woman named
Mary Ann Adams for whom this certificate
is made was free born I do therefore grant
her said application and hereby certify that
from her own account she is now about
twenty five years of age five feet two inches high
or thereabout of a chesnutt complexion was
born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid
and has a small scar on the back of her right
hand and has no other notable marks or
scars   That I have observed.      In Testimony
                whereof I hereto subscribe my
(Seal)       name & affix the seal of Caroline
                County Court this 7th day of
                December A D 1849
