253 hereunto subscribe my name & affix the seal (Seal) of Caroline County Court this 7th day of December A. D. 1849 James H Fountain Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro woman named Hester Ann Adams for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such case made and provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoe's are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the death oath of John R Willis of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro woman named Hester Ann Adams for whom this certificate is made was free born. I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her own account she is now about twenty three years of age five feet one and & one half inches high or thereabouts of a light chesnutt Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a scar on her left wrist also a small scar below the right eye and another on the back of the right hand and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof the I hereunto (seal) subscribe my name and affix the seal of Caroline County Court this 7th day of December A D. 1849 James H Fountain Clk of Caroline County Court |
