State of Maryland Caroline County to wit.  whereas application
hath been made to me by a negro woman calling herself
Harriett Ann Gibbs for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to the acts of Assembly in such case made and provided
by which said Acts free negroes and mulatoes are permitted
to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate
of being free born and whereas Also upon the oath of William
Delahay Esq.r of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro
woman named Harriet Harriet Ann Gibbs for whom
this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant
her said application and hereby Certify that from
her own account she will be nineteen years of age
on the 29th day of July next four feet eleven inches
high or thereabouts of a black complexion was born
and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and has a scar
on the right side of her neck and has no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed.  In Testimony
                   whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and
(seal)           affix the seal of Caroline Court this 9th
                   day of May A. D. 1848   James H. Fountain Clerk
                                                        of Caroline County Court

May Banks for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the
acts of Assembly in such case made and provided by
which said acts free negroes and mulatoes are permitted
to travel out of this state upon the obtention of
a certificate of being free born and whereas also
upon the oath of Albert N. Davis Esq.r of Caroline
County aforesaid that the said Negro woman named Mary
Banks for whom this Certificate is made was free
born.  I do therefore grant her said application
and hereby Certify that from her own account she
is now about forty years of age five feet one & one
