free born   I do therefore grant her said application and hereby
certify that from her own account she was twenty five years
of age in January last four feet ten & one half Inches high
or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid
complexion black and has one large & two small scars on her
right arm above the elbow and one small scar on the wrist of
the same arm and has no other notable marks or scars that I
have observed        In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe
                              my name and affix the seal of Caroline

State of Maryland  Caroline County to wit; I hereby certify whereas
heretofore to wit on the twelfth day of January Eighteen hundred and
five a certain Samuel Talbott ^of Caroline County^ by Deed of Manumission duly executed
acknowledged and recorded among the Land records of Caroline County
did manumit and set free a negro certain negro girl named Lydia
to be free when she should arrive to the age of twenty five years & her
male issue if any to be free when they ^should^ arrive to the age of twenty
five years.  And Whereas application hath been made to me by
a negro man named John Loockerman (being of the issue of
the said negro girl named Lydia) for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to the acts of assembly in such case made and provided
And whereas also upon the oath of William F. Chilton of Caroline
County aforesaid that the said negro man named John Loockerman
for whom this certificate is made is free; I do therefore grant his said
application and hereby certify that from his own account he is now
about forty years of age five feet Six and one half inches high
or thereabouts of a dark chesnut Complexion was born and raised in
Caroline County aforesaid and has no notable marks or scars that I
have observed           In Testimony Whereof I hereunto subscribe my
(Seal of Caroline)      my name and affix the seal of Caroline County Court
(  County Court )      this 8th day of September Anno Domini 1846
