Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

Clendening of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro man
named Daniel Lambdin junr for whom this certificate is made was
free born.      I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that
from his own Account he will ^be^ twenty three years of age some time in this
Present month five feet seven and one half inches high or thereabouts
was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and of a black complexion
and has a scar on the lower part of his forehead and another small scar
on his upper lip near the corner of his mouth & has no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed
(seal of Caroline)      In Testimony Whereof I hereunto subscribe my
(      County      )      name & affix the seal of Caroline Coty Court this

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; whereas application hath been made to me
by a negro man named Garretson Hill for a Certificate of his freedom
agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such Case made and provided by which
said Acts free negroes and mulattoe's are permitted to travel out of this
State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born; and whereas
also upon the oath of Charles G. Dukes of Caroline County aforesaid
that the said negro man named Garretson Hill for whom this certificate
is made was free born; I do therefore grant his said application and
hereby Certify that from his own account he is now about thirty one
years of age five feet two and a quarter inches high or thereabouts
was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and of a dark
brown Complexion and has a small scar of a Cut just under the
under lip and has to small scars of cuts on his fore and little
fingers on his left hand and has no other notable marks or scars
that I have observed
