197 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro woman named Maria Reasons for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such Case made and Provided by which said acts free negroes and mulatto's are permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a Certificate of being free born. And whereas also upon the Oath of Thomas B. Culbreth of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro woman named Maria Reasons for whom this Certificate is made was free born. In Testimony Whereof I hereunto subscribe My ( seal of ) name and affix the seal of Caroline County Court (Caroline County) this 29.th day of July Anno Domini 1845 ( Court ) James H. Fountain Clerk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man named Cato (alias) John Casson for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the acts of assembly in such case made and provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a Certificate of being free born. And whereas also upon the oath of John Nicols of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro man named Cato (alias) John Casson for whom this Certificate is made was free born; I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that from his own account he is now about thirty one years of age five feet eight inches high or thereabouts of a Mulatto Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County & has a small scar on the inside of his left arm near the elbow joint and has |
