observed               In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
(seal of Caroline)   name and affix the seal of Caroline County Court this
( County Court  )   eighth day of July Anno Domini 1845

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath
been made to me by a negro man named George W. Stanford for a
Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in Such
case made and provided by which said ac free negroes and mulatto's are
Permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of
being free born and Whereas also upon the affirmation of Henry Willson
of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro man named George
W. Stanford for whom this Certificate is made was free born
I do therefore grant his SAid application and hereby Certify that
from his own account he was twenty two years of age on the 13.th
day of November last past five feet eleven and one half
inches high or thereabouts of a dark chesnut Complexion was born
and raised in Caroline County and has a large Scar on the
inside of his left ankle and has no other notable marks or scars
that I have observed

(Caroline County)      my name and affix the seal of Caroline
(       Court         )      County Court this eighth day of July
