193 little finger on her right hand and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name ( seal of ) and affix the public seal of Caroline County Court this (County Court) nineteenth day of May Anno Domini 1845 James H. Fountain Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been Made to Me by a negro woman named Elizabeth Mason for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such Case Made and provided by which said acts free negroes and Mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a Certificate of being free born; And whereas also ^upon^ the Oath of John Underwood of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro woman Named Elizabeth Mason for whom this Certificate is made was free born; I do therefore grant her said Application and hereby Certify that from her own account she is now about twenty two years of age five feet two and one half inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and of a black Complexion and has a scar on the right side of her face occasioned by a burn (as she says) and has no other notable Marks or scars that I have observed ( seal of ) In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe (Caroline County) My name and affix the seal of ( Court ) Caroline County Court this twentieth day of May 1845 James H.
