    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application
hath been made to Me by a negro man named John Thomas for
a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in
such Case made and provided by which said acts free negroes
and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon
the obtention of a certificate of being free born, And whereas
also upon the Oath of Charles Willis of E. of Caroline County
aforesaid that the said negro man named John Thomas
for whom this Certificate is made was free born:  I do
therefore grant his said application and hereby Certify that
from his own account he was twenty five years of age in October
last past five feet six inches high or thereabouts of a black
Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has
a small scar on the left side of his face and has no other
notable marks or scars that I have observed
(Seal of Caroline)      In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
(  County Court  )      name and affix the seal of Caroline County
                                 Court this sixth day of May Eighteen hundred
                                  and forty five

made to me by a mulatto woman named Maria Wyatt for a certificate of
her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such Case made and provided
by which said acts free negroe's and mulattoe's are permitted to travel out
of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born; And whereas
also upon the oath of Ellen T. Barwick of Caroline County aforesaid that the
said mulatto woman named Maria Wyatt for whom this certificate is made
was free born; I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify
that from her own account she was twenty three years of age on the sixteenth
day of July last past five feet ten and three quarter inches high or thereabouts
was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and of a
mulatto complexion and has a small scar on her left arm just
above the wrist and another small scar on the finger next to the
