191 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application heretofore to wit; on the nineteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two a Certain John Clements by Deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land records of Caroline County did among others manumit and set free a certain negro Girl called Fanny ^(now calling herself Fannie Ann Daniel)^ to be free from and after the first day of January Eighteen hundred and forty one; And the said negro woman named Frances Ann Daniel having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such Case made and provided; And whereas also upon the Oath of Martin Norriss of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro girl Fanny (now Calling herself Frances Ann Daniel) for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said Manumission I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that from her age as expressed in the said Manumission she was twenty nine years of age on the first day of January last past five feet one inch high or thereabouts of a dark Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a scar on her right arm near the elbow joint & has a small scar on her face near her left eye and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed ( seal of ) In Testimony Whereof I hereunto subscribe (Caroline County) my name and affix the seal of Caroline County ( Court ) Court this 21.st day of April 1845 James H Fountain Clerk of Caroline County Court |
