high or thereabouts has a scar of a cut under the outer corner of his
left eye and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the
           public seal of my office this 14th day of April anno Domini 1829

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  whereas application hath been made to me by
a coloured woman named Patty Brown for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of
assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes
are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born
and whereas also upon the oath of shelvy Jump of Caroline County that the said Coloured
woman named Patty Brown for whom this Certificate is made was free born I do therefore
grant her said application and hereby certify that from her own account she will be thirty
seven ^years^ of age the tenth day of July next five feet three and a half inches high or thereabouts
was born and raised in Caroline County of a complexion nearly black has a small
scar of a burn on the top of her left arm and a little below above the elbow joint and a
small scar of a scratch on the back of the same arm below the elbow joint and no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas heretofore to wit on the
ninth day of February eighteen hundred and ten a certain Martin Norriss by Deed
of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land records of Caroline
County did Manumit and set free a certain negro man named Jacob Norriss
to serve eighteen years from the first day of January eighteen hundred and ten and
the said negro man named Jacob Norriss having made application to me for a Certificate
mentioned in the said Manumission I do therefore grant his said application and
hereby Certify that from his own account he is about twenty seven years of age five
feet five and three quarter inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline
