State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application
hath been made to me by a negro woman named Lourena Kinney
for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in
such Case made and provided by which said acts free negroes
and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon the
obtention of a certificate of being free born  And whereas also upon
the affirmation of Rhoda Rhodes of Caroline County aforesaid that
the said negro woman named Lourena Kinney for Whom this
Certificate is made was free born; I do therefore grant her
said application and hereby Certify that from her own account
she is now about forty years of age five feet five inches high or
thereabouts of a dark chesnut Complexion was born and raised in
Caroline County aforesaid and has no notable marks or scars
that I have observed

(Caroline County)     my name and affix the seal of Caroline County
(         Court      )      Court this eleventh day of March Eighteen
                                 hundred and forty five

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit; on
the twenty eighth day of May in the year ^of our Lord^ Eighteen hundred and twenty eight
a certain Joseph Talbott of Caroline County by Deed of Manumission
duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline
County did among others manumit and set free a certain negro
boy ^(now man)^ Called Lewis Gibbs to be free on the first day of January
Eighteen hundred and forty five and the said negro man Named Lewis
Gibbs having made application to me for a certification of his freedom
agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such Case made and provided
And whereas also upon the Oath of Thomas E. Talbott of the
City of Baltimore that the said negro man named Lewis Gibbs
for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned
in the said Manumission; I do therefore grant his said
