hath been made to me by a negro woman named Catherine Green
for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of assembly
in such case made and provided by which said acts free
negros and mulattoes are permitted to travil out of this state upon
the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon
the oath of William A Barwick of Caroline County aforesaid that
the said negro woman named Catherine Green for whom this certificate
is made was free born I do therefore grant her said application
and hereby certify that from her mothers account she was
sixteen years of age some time in February last past five feet five
and a quarter inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in
Caroline County and of a black complexion and has no notable
marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)        In testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name
                and affix the public seal of my office this 2d day of
                January AD 1844  Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County
                                                          Court      Cost $1.00


State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas application
hath been made to me by a negro man named John Thomas for a certificate
of his freedom agreeably to the acts of assembly in such case made
and provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted
to travil out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born
And whereas also upon the oath of John Williams of Caroline County
aforesaid that the said negro man named John Thomas for whence
this certificate is made was free born   I do therefore grant his said
application and do hereby certify that from his own account he was
twenty one years of age in october last is five feet seven inches high
or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County and is of a
black Complexion and the finger next to the little finger of his
right hand is cut off at the second joint and he has no other notable
scars that I have observed.   In testimony whereof I hereto subscribe
(seal)                     my name and affixed the public seal of my
                             office this 29.th day of March Anno Domini
