111 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas heretofore to wit on the sixth day of November Eighteen hundred and twelve a certain Thomas Duhamel of Caroline County by a deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County among others did manumit and set free a certain negro girl named Elizabeth to be free when she should arrive to the age of sixteen years And the said negro woman named Elizabeth having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of assembly in such cases made and provided: And Whereas also upon the oath of Eliza Atkinson of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Elizabeth for whom this certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her age as expressed in the said manumission she is now about twenty eight years of age five feet one and a quater inches high or thereabouts of a brown Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a scar of a cut under her left eye and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 29th day of September A D. 1836 Jo Richardson Clk of Cost $1.00 Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a mulattoe woman named Margaret Duhamel for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such cases made and provided by which said acts free negroe's and mulattoe's are permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born; And Whereas also upon the oath of Eliza Atkinson of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Margaret Duhamel for whom this certificate is made was free born: I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that according to her own account she was twenty one years of age on the twenty third day of November last five feet two and three quater inches high or |
