11 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas heretofore to wit on the seventh day of March in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and twenty eight a certain Mary Hardcastle by Deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land records of Caroline County did Manumit and set free a certain negro man named James Baynard to be free from and after the date of the said Manumission and the said negro man named James Baynard having made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such Case made and provided And whereas also upon the oath of John Councell of Caroline County that the said negro man named James Baynard for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said Manumission I do therefore grant his said application and hereby Certify that from his age as expressed as in the said Manumission he was forty years of age the seventh day of March last five feet five and three quarter inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County of a complexion nearly black has a small scar on his forehead nearly perpendicular extending upwards from the inner Corner of his left eyebrow and another small scar above his right eye brow and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe (seal) my name and affix the public seal of my office this 18th day of July Anno Domini 1828 Jo Richardson Clk of Cost $1.00 Cts Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline county to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro woman named Lydia Mackery for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free and whereas also upon the oath of Mahala Cooper of Caroline county that the said negro woman named Lydia Mackery was free born I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that according to her own account she is thirty ^two^ years of age five feet and a quarter inches high or thereabouts of a black complexion was born and raised in Caroline County has a small mole under the right side of her chin a large scar of a cut on her right wrist and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 29th day of July anno Domini 1828 Jo Richardson Clk of (seal) Cost $1.00 Cts Caroline County Court |
