DM John Clayland —	\|	This being an Action of Debt Commenced by the S^d [Pltf]
a^t	\|	against the S^d Def^t. for the Sum of Six hundred and
TB. Christopher Bateman	\|	thirty pounds of Tobacco And wherein the Sheriff of
		S^d County to whome the writt in the S^d Action was direc[:]

   ted makes Return to the Court here the third Teusday in August viz^t. the 16^th: day of S^d
   month being the day of Return of Said Writt Endorst Cepi Corpus p^r Gideon
   Pearce Sheriff.
        Whereupon the af^d. plt^f not liveing in this County David Macbride Attry
   for S^d Plt^f. here present in Court takes upon him the payment —————
   of the Costs in the action af^d. to the Said Def^t. provided the Said Def^t. Shall ap
   [pe]ar and answer unto the Said plt^f. in the af^d action and the af^d. plt^f Shall be
   [Non] Suit therein.
           Likewise at the prayer of the plt^f by his attorney af^d. the Def^t. is adjudged
   to give Special Bail to the Accõn af^d. and that the Sheriff of Said County keep the said
   Deft in Safe Custody untill he shall give Special Bail as af^d. Thereupon Charles
   Smith and Peter Green both of Said County present herein Court Undertake Joyntly
   and Severally for the Said Def^t. that in Case the af^d plt^f Shall recover Judgement
   in the plea af^d. against the Said Def^t. or that he the said Def^t. Shall therein be
   Convict, that then the Said Def^t Shall pay the Condemnation of the Court there=
   upon or render his body to the Custody of the Sheriff of Kent County in Satis=
   faction thereof, or that they the af^d Charles Smith and Peter Green or one of
   them will do it for him
        Whereupon the af^d Df^t. by Thomas Bown his Attorney Comes and defends
   the force and Injury when &c. and Saveing to himself all and all manner of Ex=
   ceptions and Advantages as well to the writt af^d. as also to the Declⁿ of the S^d
   Plt^f. prays leave to imparle thereto and to answer at next Court and he hath it
   and the Same day is given the Plt^f. also

   Comenced by the Said Plt^f against the Said Def^t. And wherein the Sheriff of Said County
   to whome the writt in the Said action was directed makes Return to the Court
   here on the third Teusday in August Viz^t. the 16^th. day of the Same month anno:
