                                                    March Court 1719                                              411 
   third tuesday in March to wit the 15th day of the Same month Anno Domi 1719 being
   the day of return Endorst Cepi Corpus pr Simon Wilmer Sherf
   Kent County | The Jurors for the Honble. the Lord propry and the body of Kent
        in | Ss   County on their Oath do present that John Cookson late of Woorton
     Maryland   | hundred Yeoman the fourth day of August in the Year of our Lord
   Christ one Thousand Seven hundred and Nineteen at the hundred afd at St.
   Pauls Parish in Kent County within the Jurisdiciõn of this Court the fear of God
   before his Eyes not haveing but by the Instigation of the devill Adultery
   did Committ with a Certain Sarah Edwards wife of John Edwards late of
   Woorten hundred in the parish & County afd and within the Jurisdiciõn
   afd Planter to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the evill and —
   pernicious Example of others and against the peace of our Said Lord propry
   his Rule & dignity and against the forme of an act of assembly of this —–
   province now in force in Such Case made & provided
   Evidce Fred Hanson Church Warden         Dav Macbride pr Dno Proppry—
   on the back of the preceeding bill was Endorsed as folls vizt. Billa Vera pr
   William Crow foreman
   And now at this Court to wit the 16th day of March Anno Domi 1719 comes
   the afd John Cookson and defends the force and injury when &ca. and Says –
   that he Cannot gainsay but that he is guilty as afd Charged and thereupon
   he Submits to the Court Therefore it is Considered by the Justices
   here the 16th day of March Anno Domi 1719 afd That the Said John
   Cookson have on his bare back three lashes untill the blood appeare
   for his offence of Committing adultery as afd as also pay the Sume of
   Three hundred and fourty pounds of Tobacco Cost accrueing on the Premises
   afd
     It is Considered by the Justice here the Same day last mentioned That
   Simon Wilmer Gent. high Sherf of Said County take into his Custody ye
   afd John Cookson and him to Carry to the Publique whyping post & there
   to Receive as in the Judgment afd and when Executed to bring him into
   Court againe After which came the Said Sherf the Same day and^yearlast
   mentioned with the Said John Cookson and made return of his precept to
   the Court Thereon Endorst In all things Served & Executed pr Simon Wilmer Sherf.
   ordered by the Court here that the Said John return to his masters
