   adjudged forfeited Therefore it is Considered by the Court here viz the 19th day of
   August Anno Domi 1719 afd That the afd Right Honarble the Lord Proprie[:]
   :tor Recover against the afd William Morris the Sume of twenty pounds –
   Sterling as also Recover against the afd Gideon Pearce the Sume of Tenn
   pounds Sterling to the use of his Said Lord Ship &ca.

   His Lord Ship | Kent County Ss Sarah Jewers of Kent County —
   & James Harris . . | Widow Stands Attached to Answer unto The Right
           —— | Honourable ye Lord proprietor of this Province
           at | and James Harris who as well for the Said Lord
   Sarah Jewers | prprietor as for himself followeth of a plea that

She render to the Said Lord proprietor and the
   Same James Harris the Sume of Two Thousand pounds of Merchantable
   Tobacco of the value of twenty pounds Sterling money which to the Said
   Lord proprietor and the Same James Harris She unjustly detains &ca.
             and Whereupon the afd Plt by Thomas Bowne his Attorney
   Saith that whereas by a Statute at a Session of Assembly begun and held
   at the City of Anopolis the Twenty Sixth day of Aprill in the first year of the
   reigne of our Sovereigne Lord George of Great Brittaine France and Ireland
   Kind Defender of the faith &ca. in the Year of our Lord Christ one Thousand
   Seven hundred and Fifteen amongst other things relateing to Servants
   and Slaves it was ordained and Enacted by the Kings most Excelent Majesty
   by and with the Advice and Consent of his Majesties Governour Councel
   and Assembly of this Province by the Authority of the Same that no person
   whatsoever Shall trade Barter Commerce or any wayes deale with any –
   Servant whether hired or Indented or Slave belonging or Appertaining
   to any Inhabitant within this Province without Leave or Licence first
   had and Obtained from Such Servants Master Mistris Dame or overseer
   for his So doing under the Penalty of Two Thousand pounds of Merchantable
   Tobacco the one half thereof to his Majesty his heirs and Successors for
   the Support of Government the other half to the Master Mistris or true
   owner of Such Goods So purloynd Bartered or Conveyed away when proved
   by Sufficient Witness or Confession of the party to be Recovered in any —
   Court^ofRecord of this Province by Action of Debt Bill plaint or Information
   wherein no Essoyne protection or Wager of Law to be allowed as by the
   Said Act of Assembly amongst other things more fully is Contained Yet the
   afd Deft the Statute afd litle Considering nor the pains nor penalty’s in
   the Same Statute in any wise minding or regarding the afd Deft the fourth
   day of November in the Year of our Lord Christ one Thousand Seven hundred
   and Seventeen at St. Pauls Parish in Kent County within the Jurisdiciõn of
   this Court did trade bartar and Buy of a certain Negro Man Slave named
   Tom belonging to the afd James Harris an Inhabitant in Kent County —
   within the Province afd Tenn Bushells of Merchantable Wheat of the value
