206 March Court 1718 be prosecuted no farther &ca But the afd Margret Saith She Cannot gainsay but that She hath Commited fornication but not with a negro man but denyes to prove the Child that was delivered of her to any person Therefore it it Considered by the Court here vizt. this Nineteenth day of March Annoq Domini One Thousand Seven hundred and Eighteen That the afd Margret Murrough Receive on her bare back Nine Lashes well laid on for her offence of Committing fornication as afd as also pay the Sume of four hundred and Eighteen pounds of Tobacco Cost arrising on the premises afd It is also Considered by the Court here vizt. the Same day left mentioned that the Sherf of Said County take the afd Margret and Carry her to the whyping Post and to Execute the Stripes as in the Judgment afd and then to bring her into Court And the Sherf of Said County the Same day last mentioned Came Simon Wilmer Gent. high Sherf of Said County and made return of his precept against the afd Margret in all things Served and Executed pr Simon Wilmer Sherf ordered by the Court here that the afd Margret Murrough Serve at the Expiration of her time the Space of Six months for trouble and disgrace of her masters house Loose time and Charge in Lying Inn as also for the mainenance of the Child during the time it Lived ordered by the Court here that She be delivered up at the Expiration of her time JamsSmith Clk
Indictment which is as folls vizt. Kent County Ss The Jurors for the Honble. the Lord proprietarie and the body of Kent on their oath do present that John Haynes late of Lower South Sassafras hundred Labourer Servt. to Rachel Medford of the Said County widdow in the County afd the first day of July in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and Eighteen & at divers other days & times as well before as after at Lower South Sassafras Hundred afd in the County afd and within the Jurisdiciõn of this Court the fear of God before her eyes not having but by the Instigation of the devill did Commit fornication with a Certain Rachel Newsum & thereby did begitt a Child on ye body of the afsaid Rachel to the High displeasure if Almight God to the evill & pernicious Example of others |
