                at | Knowles of a plea that he render Unto him the full
   Christopher Bateman | and Just Sum of five hundred and forty five

pounds of Tobacco which from him he unjustly


detains &ca.
   and Whereupon the afd Plt. by John Johnson his attry Complains that
   whereas the afd Deft. the first day of Aprill in the Year of our Lord Christ one
   Thousand Seven hundred and Eighteen at St. Pauls Parish in Kent County within
   the Jurisdiciõn of this Court was Indebted unto the afd Plt. in the Summe of—
   five hundred and forty five pounds of Merchantable Tobacco for the like Sume
   of Tobacco for Clerks fees due from the afd Deft to the afd Plt and So thereof being
   Indebted the afd Deft in Consideration thereof then and there upon himselfe assumed &
   to the Said Plt. then and there faithfully promised that he the Said Deft the afd -
   Summe of five hundred and fifteen forty five pounds of Merchantable Tobacco
   unto the Said Plt. when thereunto required would well and truly pay & Content
   Nevertheless the afd Deft. his promise and assumption afd in form afd made little
   regarding but plotting and fraudulently Intending him in that behalfe ——
   Craftily and Subtilly to deceive and defraud the afd Sume of five hundred and
   forty five pounds of Tobacco unto the Said Plt altho he the Said Deft afterwds
   vizt. the Second day of Aprill in the year afd and often after at the Parish County
   & Jurisdiciõn afd was thereunto required hath not paid nor made Content
   for the Same but that to him to pay or make Content for the Same but that
   to him to pay or make Content for the Same hitherto hath denyed & Still doth
   deny to the Damages of him the Said Plt one Thousand pounds of Tobo. and
   thereupon he brings Sute &ca.
