Whereas James Blackstone a free coloured man late of Anne
Arundel County Maryland deceased did on the 18th October
in the year 1832 purchase of the late Richard M. Chase of
said County for the sum of fifty dollars his son James Blackstone
being then an infant with the intention that the said infant
should be manumitted and set free therefore Be it Known
to all whom it may concern that I John Ridout of the
County and state aforesaid administrator of the said James
Blackstone in consideration of the premises and likewise
in further consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in
hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have
released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free
and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate
manumit and set free the before mentioned James Blackstone
son of the aforesaid James Blackstone being of the age of twenty
one years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood
and maintenance and him the said James Blackstone
I do hereby declare to be henceforth free manumitted and
discharged from all manner of servitude or service
In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and
affix my seal this eighth day of September in the year of our
Lord eighteen hundred and fifty three

       the presence of                           John Ridout   (seal)

Anne Arundel County Sct         On this eighth day of September
1853 personally appears John Ridout party to the foregoing
instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the
Peace of the state of Maryland in the County aforesaid and
acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purpose
therein mentioned and the negro man therein named to be
henceforth manumitted and discharged from all manner
of servitude and service and be before and manumitted
according to the act of Assembly in such case made
