Given under my hand this 23.rd day of May A. D. 1851 Co Jos H Nicholson clk 62½ Recorded the 23.rd day of May 1851 paid Thomas Franklin to Mary Cain To all whom it may concern be it known That I Thomas Franklin of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to me in hand by James Cain of the City of Baltimore have released from slavery manumitted ^liberated^ and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery manumit liberate and set free my negro woman named Mary Cain being of the age of thirty four years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro woman named Mary Cain I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my executors or administrators forever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal on this fourth day of June in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty one Signed sealed and Thos Franklin (seal) delivered in the presence of J W Hunter State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this fourth day of June in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty one before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the state of |
