65 set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro girl named Charlotte Jane being of the of eight years to take effect and and from first day of May Anno Domini eighteen hundred and fifty five and her the said negro girl named I do declare to be at and from the first day of May Anno Domini eighteen hundred and fifty five free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my heirs executors or administrators forever In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of May Anno Domini eighteen hundred and fifty one Signed sealed and Jos Atwell (seal) acknowledged in presence of J. S. Owens State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sct On this 8.th May 1851 personally appeared Joseph Atwell before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County the said Joseph Atwell being personally known to me to be the identical person mentioned in the foregoing deed of manumission who declares and saith that the said deed of manumission is his act and deed and that the said Charlotte Jane and her increase is and are free at and from the first day of May Anno Domini eighteen hundred and fifty five the word "April" being first stricken out and the word "May" inserted J.
