67 Maryland in an for the county aforesaid personally appeared Thomas Franklin who is known to me of my own knowledge to be the person named and described as and professing to be the party grantor and releasor in the aforegoing instrument of writing and acknowledged ex d d the same to be his act and deed costs In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand 62½ the day and year last above written Paid Recorded June 5th 1851 J. W. Hunter
me moving thereunto have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named William Carter being of the age of twenty nine years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named William Carter I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my heirs executors or administrators forever provided nevertheless that the said negro man William Carter shall continue to serve and faithfully as heretofore as long as I shall live and if at the time of my death there be not funds in hand or owing to be of sufficient amount to pay my debts and funeral expensed then said negro man William Carter shall still be hired in conjunction with my negro boy Joseph until a sufficient sum be obtained to pay said debts and expenses after which the said William Carter shall be free as provided for above In witness whereof the said Elizabeth |
