49 State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sc.t Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 18.th day of November eighteen hundred and forty eight before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for said County personally appears James Legg he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be a party to the foregoing deed or indenture and doth acknowledge the said indenture or instrument of writing to be his act and deed In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid J. W. Hunter Co 62½ Recorded the 18.th day of November 1848 paid
consideration me thereunto moving have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do ^hereby^ release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man Walter Ward being under forty years of age and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Walter Ward I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to |
