47 Arundel County State of Maryland being in possession of a negro woman slave for life named Margaret lately bequeathed to me by the last will and testament of my mother Rebecca Nicholson as will more fully appear by the records of the orphans court of the said County in consideration of the fidelity and attention of the said Margaret to my mother in her life time and more particularly during her recent protracted illness and in further consideration of a request made to me by my mother not being previous to her death have released from slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my the said negro woman Margaret whom I suppose to be eather under the age of twenty five years and able to gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators forever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this ^third^ day of November 1848 Signed sealed and Jas Macon Ncholson (seal) delivered in presence of J. W. Hunter R. Welsh of Ben Jno Donovan Anne Arundel County to wit: Be it remembered that on this third day of November 1848 personally appears Jas Macon Nicholson party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber |
