State of Maryland
                      Anne Arundel County to wit
Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that
on this Twentieth day of April in the year of our
Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty
seven before the subscriber a justice of the peace
of the State of Maryland in and for the County
aforesaid personally appeared Doctor Richard
Weems and acknowledged the aforegoing
manumission or instrument of writing to be
his act and deed for the purposes therein
mentioned
           In testimony whereof I have hereunto
cts    set my hand on the day above written

Negroes John & Thomas
 Know all men
by these presents
that I George Weems
of Anne Arundel County
in the State of Maryland
for divers good causes and considerations
me thereunto moving have from and after
the periods hereinafter mentioned liberated
and set free and by these presents
do after such periods liverate manumit and
set free my two negro boys namely John and
Thomas children of my negro woman slave
Caroline the said John to be free on the first
day of August Eighteen hundred and sixty
