Alethea Robinson and each acknowledged the above
deed Manumission and Release of Service to be
their free act and deed

       Deed of Manumission and Release of Service
Whereas our slave Horace Dows has enlisted in
the service of the United States now in consideration
thereof we James S Robinson Thomas J Robinson
Laura C Robinson Cyrus N Robinson Charles A
Robinson and Alethea Robinson of Anne Arundel
County State of Maryland do hereby in consideration
of said enlistment manumit set free and release
the above named Horace Downs from all service
due us his freedom to commence from the twenty ninth
day of March eighteen hundred and sixty four
the date of his enlistment as aforesaid in the Thirty
ninth Regiment of Colored Troops in the service
of the United States
       Witness our hands and seals this twelvth day
