238 Deed of Manumission and Release of Service Whereas my slave Thomas Hawkins has enlisted in the service of the United States Now in consideration thereof I Ann M Hodges of Anne Arundel County State of Maryland do hereby in consideration of said enlistment manumit set free and release the above named Thomas Hawkins from all service due me his freedom to commence from the in the the date of his enlistment as aforesaid Regiment of Colored Troops in the service of the United States Witness my hand and seal this sixteenth day of September 1865 Witness A. B. Howard Ann M Hodges (seal) Benjn Watkins Anne Arundel County State of Maryland 1865 Before me appeared this day Ann M Hodges and acknowledged the above deed of Manumission and Release of service to be his free act and deed Robert F Dodson J.
