the above deed of manumission and Release of Service
to be his free act and deed

             Deed of Manumission & Release of
Service
       Whereas my slave Benjamin Jackson
has enlisted in the service of the United States
now in consideration thereof I John H Hopkins
of Anne Arundel County State of Maryland
do hereby in consideration of said enlistment
manumit set free and release the above named
Benjamin Jackson from all service due me
his freedom to commence from the date of
his enlistment in the Regiment of Colored
Troops in the service of the United States
         Witness my hand & seal this 30.th day
of August 1865
