233 Before me appeared this day John H Hopkins and acknowledged the above deed of Manumission and Release of Service to be his free act and deed U States Intl Reve Nathaniel Chew 5c Stamp N C Aug 29 1865 Recorded 30th August 1865 Deed of Manumission & Release of Service Whereas my slave Charles Murdock has been drafted in the service of the United States now in consideration thereof I James E Scrivener of Anne Arundel County in the state of Maryland do hereby in consideration of such draft manumit set free and release the above named Charles Murdock from all service due me his freedom to commence from the the date of his draft as aforesaid in the Regiment of troops in the service of the United States Company witnesses Jas E Scrivener (seal) Marshall H Carr John Hutchins W T Wilkinson State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sc On this 25th day of August 1865 before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County aforesaid personally appeared James E Scrivener and acknowledged the foregoing deed of manumission and release of service to be his free act and deed Marshall H Carr J.
