                         Before me appeared this day Samuel Purdy
                         and acknowledged the above Deed of
                         Manumission and Release of Service to
be his free act and deed
                                     Wm R Thompson  J P
Recorded the 1 day of December 1864

Deed of Manumission and Release of Service
      Whereas my slave Robert Johnson has enlisted in the
Service of the United States  Now in Consideration thereof I Essex
R Dorsey of anne arundel County State of Maryland do hereby
in Consideration of said enlistment Manumit set free
and release the above named Robert Johnson from all
Service due me:  his freedom to commence from the 20 Feby
1864 the date of his enlistment as aforesaid in the 30 Regiment
of Colored Troops in the service of the united states
    Witness My hand and seal this 25 day of November
