20 considerations me thereunto moving have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named Henry Matthews being of the age of twenty five years and above to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Henry Matthews I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my executors or administrators forever In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25.th day of May in the year of our Lord 1846 Signed & sealed & delivered Jno Ridout (seal) in the presence of G. H. Camden W.m Glover A. A. County Sct Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 25.th day of May eighteen hundred and forty six personally appears John Ridout before the Subscriber a justice of the peace in and for said County and acknowledges the aforegoing deed or indenture to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned.
