U S Internal          Before me appeared this day George Wells
Revenue stamp     and acknowledged the above Deed of
5 cents W R T      Manumission and Release of Service to be
    28 ap 1864      his free act and deed

Deed of Manumission and Release of service
       Whereas My slave Alexander Matthews has
enlisted in the service of the united states  Now in
Consideration thereof I George Wells of annearundel
County state of Maryland do hereby in consideration
of said enlistment Manumit set free and release the
above named Alexander Matthews from all service due
me her freedom to commence from the 1 day of march
1864 the date of her enlistment as foresaid on the 30
Regiment of Colored Troops in the service of the united
States   Witness My hand and seal this 28 day of
April 1864
