Deed of Manumission and Release of Service
       Whereas My slave James Stewart has enlisted
in the service of the united states now in consideration thereof
I Mary Linsted of Anne arundel County State of Maryland
do hereby in Consideration of said enlistment Manumit
set free and release the above named James Stewart from
all service due me his freedom to Commence from the
                   date of his enlistment as aforesaid in the
39 Regiment of Colored Troops in the service of the united
States   Witness My hand and Seal this seventh day
of april 1864                           Mary Linsted   (seal)
