125 appeared Mabel Griffin and acknowledged the aforegoing deed to be her act Wm H Birckhead J. P 56 paid Recorded the 29 day of augt 1859 Ex d d d Know all Men by these presents that I John T Hammond of the City of Annapolis Anne arundel County and state of maryland in Consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars in hand paid to me at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents by parties interested in procuring the freedom of my negro slave Benjamin Bordley the receipt of which said sum I hereby acknowledge and for other Consideration me thereunto moving do hereby manumit and set free my said negro slave Benjamin Bordley being a light mulatto boy about five feet and ten inches in heighth and about twenty five years of age a slave for life his freedom to commence from the date of these presents Witness My hand and seal this thirtieth day of september in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty nine John T Hammond (seal) Test Will H Tuck Oliver Miller On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of maryland Anne arundel County to wit I hereby Certify that on this thirtieth day of September in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty nine before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the state of maryland in and for the County aforesaid personally appeared John T Hammond and acknowledged the foregoing deed of Manumission to be his act W.m Glover Recorded the 30 day of September 1859 I Elizabeth Vain of alexandria verginia do hereby manumit and set free my negro man |
