122 from slavery liberate Manumit and set free my female slave a mulatto woman named Elizabeth Folks being of the age of twenty seven years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance for herself & family and her three Children vizt Isabella a mulatto Child aged six years John a black Child aged four years and Sam a black child aged two years and her the said Elizabeth Folks and her Children Isabella Folks, John Folks and Saml Folks I do declare to be henceforth free Manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators for ever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fourteenth day of may in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty nine Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of us Jno B Scott Th Karney D Ridgely At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Be it remembered that on this fourteenth day of May 1839 personally appears John B Scott party to the within instrument of writing before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland for said County and acknowledges the same to be her act and deed for the purposes within mentioned Acknowledged before Joseph Sands Recorded the 6 day of August 1859 To all persons whom it doth or may Concern Be it known that I John B Scott of anne arundel County in the state of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving do hereby release from slavery |
