114 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I Joseph Carr of Anne Arundel County for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one dollar current to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Eleanor Ann Dorsey born on the 13.th May 1827 and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance together with her four children as follows Rebecca Ann born 6.th March 1843. Francis Ann born 6.th June 1845 James Henry born 26.th May 1846 and Rachel Ann ^Ellen^ born 29.th Feby 1848. And them the said negro woman named Eleanor Ann Dorsey and her four children Rebecca Ann Francis Ann James Henry and Rachel Ellen I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and fix my seal this seventeenth of March in the year eighteen hundred and fifty seven Signed Sealed & delivered in Joseph Carr (seal) presence of Saml Carr W.m Glover State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sct. On this seventeenth day of March in the year eighteen hundred and fifty seven before me the subscriber a justice of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for the County aforesaid personally appears Joseph Carr aforesaid and acknowledged the above deed of manumission as his act and deed paid W.m Glover 75 cts Recorded the 17.th March 1857 Ex d d d |
