112 a coloured man of Anne Arundel County do hereby bargain sell and deliver to the said William our negro child William aged about five years the child of negro woman Grace the daughter of Rose to be held by the said William Brashears a slave for life as witness our hands and seals this sixth day of December eighteen hundred and thirty four Susanna Carter (seal) paid James Walters Senr (seal) 75 Recorded the 20.th day of August 1856 Ex d d d Know all men by these presents that I John Maynard of the City of Annapolis Anne Arundel County state of Maryland do hereby manumit and set free my negro slave Pheba Ann Spencer she being a bright mulatto aged about twenty five years and able to take care of and support herself her freedom to commence from the date of these presents Witness my hand and seal this fifth day of February eighteen hundred and fifty seven Test John Maynard (seal) A H. Gambrill Philip Clayton State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered that on this fifth day of February A D eighteen hundred and fifty seven personally appeared before the subscriber a justice of the Peace of the state of Maryland in and for said County John Maynard and acknowledged the foregoing deed or instrument of writing as his act and deed Philip Clayton J. P. Recorded the 6.th day of February 1857 To all persons to whom it doth or may concern. Be it Known that I William Brewer of the City of Annapolis and state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free the said release from slavery liberation manumission to take effect at my death and not before one mulatto woman slave |
