known to me by oral testimony to be the party to the aforegoing deed
of manumission and doth acknowledge the same to be his act
and deed.  In witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my name

To all whom it may concern be it known that we Stephen Beard
Senr Betty W Beard his wife of Anne Arundel County in the state
of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto
moving as also in further considerations of the sum five dollars
current money of the United States to us in hand paid have released
presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set
free our negro woman named Eliza being of the age of thirty
four years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood
and maintenance and her the said negro woman named Eliza
we do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged
from all manner of servitude or service to us our executors
or administrators forever and her two sons Thomas aged about
seven years to serve the said Stephen Beard Sr until he shall
arrive at the age of thirty years from the date hereof and Betty
W. Beard and Robert Lemmore aged about three years to serve
the said Stephen Beard Sr and Betty W. Beard their heirs or
assigns until he shall arrive to the age of twenty one years
from the date of these presents.  In testimony whereof we have
hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this 10th day of
May 1856 in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and fifty six

             Absalom A Hall   Jos Nicholson
Rec.d on the day of the date of the within mentioned
instrument of writing the sum of five dollars current money
it being the full consideration money within mentioned
