Anne Arundel County Sc      On this fifteenth day of August
in the year 1855 personally appear Catharine S. M. Ray party to the
within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the
peace of the state of Maryland for Anne Arundel County and
acknowledges the same to be her act and deed for the purposes
within mentioned and the negroes within named to be manumitted
and discharged from all services to her or to any claiming
under her and to be free and manumitted from and after the
periods therein mentioned according to the Act of Assembly
in such case made and provided and I hereby certify that I
am satisfied of my own knowledge that the said Catharine S.
M. Ray the party grantor in the foregoing deed is the identical
person named and described therein

To all whom it may concern be it known that I Sophia W. Brice
of the City of Philadelphia for divers good causes and considerations
me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one dollar
to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated
manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release
from slavery liberate manumit and set free from and after the
thirtieth day of September in the year eighteen hundred and seventy
seven when he will be twenty five years of age my negro boy
Charles Henry son of my negro woman  Harriet Stepney
and time the said Charles I do declare to be from the said
30th September in the year 1877 free manumitted and discharged
from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors
or administrators forever.  In testimony whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifteenth
day of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and
fifty five
